Team Plants American Flag in Honor of the U.S. 250th Anniversary
Kathmandu, Nepal (PRUnderground) May 27th, 2026

America’s premier Everest guide and expedition leader, Garrett Madison and his Madison Mountaineering team successfully summited Mount Everest overnight. The climb marks Madison’s 16th successful Everest summit, a record and the most by any American-born climber. The only other person (non-Sherpa) who has more Everest summits than Madison is British climber, Kenton Cool, with twenty summits.
At the summit, Madison and the team planted an American flag in honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary. All report being in good spirits, most notably because their final summit push was accompanied by favorable weather conditions.
“Every summit is different, but this one was especially meaningful,” said Madison, founder and CEO of Madison Mountaineering. “I am incredibly proud of this team and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone on Everest.”
Madison holds multiple high-altitude mountaineering world records, such as being the only person to climb Mount Everest and nearby Mount Lhotse in a day, five times. He is the only American to climb K2 five times and has personally led more climbers to the summits of Mount Everest and K2 than anyone.
Throughout the year, Madison Mountaineering spearheads challenging climbing expeditions across the world’s highest peaks.
