What is PRP Treatment?

PRP, otherwise known as Platelet-rich plasma, is a relatively new regenerative cell-based treatment that uses a patient’s own platelets (blood cells) to help support the natural healing process of damaged tissues and organs, promoting hair loss, skin regeneration effects, and other fields of medicine.

PRP is also known as self-regulating plasma.  It is a concentration of platelet-rich plasma extracted from whole blood, which is centrifuged to separate plasma from red blood cells.

The biotech-enriched new platelets can be injected into damaged ligaments, joints, and tendons to accelerate tissue repair. For hair loss issues, it can promote hair regrowth, and help stop hair loss. For PRP facial, it can improve facial rejuvenation and scar correction.

PRP History

Platelet-rich plasma was created more than 20 years ago and was originally used in periodontal therapy, orthopedics, and sports medicine. In recent years, it has become more popular within the usage of dermatology such as hair loss and skin rejuvenation. The hair and skin industry have seen the benefits of using PRP for wound healing, acne scars, skin rejuvenation, fat grafting and hair regrowth.

In a typical blood sample, blood is mainly composed of 93% red blood cells, while the rest of the sample contains 6% platelets, and 1% white blood cells. When blood is centrifuged, a large amount of red blood cells is removed, leaving about 94% platelets and 6% red blood cells in platelet-rich plasma.

It is these high levels of growth factors and cytokines in PRP that aid in tissue rejuvenation and healing. A platelet concentration of about 1 million platelets/μl, about 5 times the normal platelet concentration, exhibits wound healing and tissue repair effects.

Platelets have a large store of more than 800 proteins, and when they are secreted, they act on many targets, such as stem cells. Other important components of PRP include leukocytes and fibrinogen. The benefits of PRP can be obtained not only from platelets, but also from a combination of growth factors and components.

PRP Hair Treatment

Studies have shown the use of PRP for androgenetic hair loss to be positive and beneficial. At Laser Skin Clinic, our technician injects the PRP into the scalp using a microneedling device. The growth factors in PRP are responsible for supporting hair follicles and maintaining the anagen or active phase of the hair cycle. Mean hair density, hair diameter, and terminal/vellus hair ratio were among the measures showing statistically significant improvement, with most patients being satisfied with their clinical results.

How Does PRP Facial Treatment Work?

As we get older, 3 main signs that tell us we are ageing are sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and loss of elasticity and volume.  The first signs that you are ageing can occur in your early 20s.  You will first notice fine lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. You dark spots may start appearing darker, and you will see dark circles appearing under the eyes.

The biggest change that people notice they are ageing occur in their late 30s and 50s, with more sagging skin, deeper wrinkles appearing, and more loss of elasticity and volume in the face.

Your cheeks tend to be one of the first parts of the face to change as we grow older, as your ligaments loosen and fatty tissue begins to drop down, creating a hollow and flat appearance.

The eye area is another part of the face that people notice a change as they age.  The loss of fat volume under the eyes, combined with thinning skin, creates noticeable dark circles as blood vessels become more visible.  Loose skin and bags under the eyes also create the tired run-down look.

Facial skin texture also becomes noticeable with more wrinkles in your forehead, a deepening of your smile lines, and crow’s feet around your eyes.  Unlike the youthful plump smooth skin you had when you were young, your skin texture begins to look leathery, dry, thin, and uneven due to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which gives your skin strength, fullness, and elasticity.

How can you regain some of that youthful skin back in your face and turn back the clock using PRP facial?

PRP is a medical procedure where your skin is healing and improving with each treatment.  Over time your skin becomes plumper, smoother, more radiant, and youthful looking.  PRP facial is a safe and effective anti-ageing therapy.

PRP contains cytokines, chemokines, plasma proteins, and growth factors. They contribute to the acceleration of healing, tissue growth, and generation of hyaluronic acid. Studies have shown that there are over 800 different types of proteins present in PRP.  These proteins and growth factors can stimulate stem cells and improve cellular proliferation, differentiation, and skin regeneration, an effective and all-natural anti-ageing therapy.
