Trilliant Health's platform, already free for hospital prices and provider data, now gives health economy stakeholders insight into how demand for healthcare services will change in the next decade.

Trilliant Health, the healthcare industry's leading analytics firm, today announced that Oria, the company's AI strategist, now includes Trilliant Health’s proprietary national demand forecast model. With this addition, Oria can answer a broader range of questions to inform market planning: who provides care, what it costs and how demand is projected to change over the next decade.

Most health economy stakeholders still utilize a demand model that projects perennial growth based on a small sample of actual outpatient encounters and unmeasurable estimates of “impact factors” instead of market-specific volumes. Trilliant Health's research repeatedly shows the opposite: demand for acute healthcare services has been declining since 2008, while demand for ambulatory services has been relatively flat.

“It is axiomatic that hope is not a strategy, but entirely too much capital in healthcare is allocated based on what stakeholders wish demand would be, not what it is,” said Hal Andrews, Chief Executive Officer of Trilliant Health. “If AI kills us all, that would have a material impact on demand, but we don’t think including that as an ‘impact factor’ results in a data-driven demand forecast. As a result, we haven’t modeled a spike in projected demand for ICD Y93.C – Activities Involving Computer Technology and Electronic Devices, especially since it is – currently – nonbillable. We’re making this forecast free on Oria because America can no longer afford a healthcare system built on wishful thinking.”

Oria can answer stakeholder questions like:

  • How is demand projected to shift between inpatient and outpatient settings?
  • How much demand for total joint replacements is expected in the Medicare population by 2030?
  • Which behavioral health diagnoses are expected to have the highest growth rate over the next five years?

With this release, Oria now incorporates three of Trilliant Health's core datasets: provider directory, hospital price transparency data and national demand forecast, all of which are now publicly available at oria.trillianthealth.com.
