New report underscores shift from rapid expansion to operational excellence as Latin America’s fiber market enters next phase of growth
The Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) LATAM Chapter released its FTTH Panorama for Latin America 2025 report, providing a comprehensive analysis of one of the world’s fastest-evolving fiber broadband markets.
The report finds that Latin America’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) market is entering a more mature phase, transitioning from aggressive network expansion to a new era defined by competition, operational efficiency, and customer experience. While the pace of coverage growth is slowing, overall deployment remains strong, with fiber connections projected to grow from 227 million in 2024 to 281 million by 2029.
Despite this progress, the region’s growth potential remains significant. More than 110 million households across Latin America and the Caribbean are still unserved or underserved by fiber, including tens of millions with no fixed broadband access at all. This gap represents a major opportunity for operators and local ISPs as they look beyond primary urban markets.
At the same time, fiber is becoming the dominant broadband technology. More than $5 billion was invested in fiber infrastructure and related M&A activity in 2025, reflecting strong long-term confidence in the market. By 2029, FTTH is expected to account for nearly 80% of fixed broadband connections in the region, as legacy technologies continue to decline.
As infrastructure scales, competition is intensifying, particularly in urban areas where multiple providers increasingly overlap. In many markets, the presence of competing fiber networks is shifting the battleground from availability to performance. Operators are now prioritizing quality of service (QoS), reliability, and in-home connectivity to differentiate offerings, reduce churn, and improve subscriber conversion.

Broadband progress in LATAM will be highlighted at Fiber Connect 2026, where Pre-Conference Workshop sessions will examine how operators are adapting to market maturity, competing in increasingly dense environments, and unlocking opportunity in underserved communities. Programming will also address key themes from the report including evolving business models, the rise of neutral networks, and the growing importance of QoS and in-home connectivity.
