FreeCast Launches “FreeCast Sports,” a Total Sports Guide for What, When and Where to Watch, With Live Scoring

New FreeCast Sports destination brings games, schedules, leagues, viewing information and live scores together as sports rights continue to fragment across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

FreeCast, Inc. (Nasdaq: CAST) (“FreeCast” or the “Company”), a media and streaming technology company, today announced FreeCast Sports, a comprehensive sports discovery destination designed to help fans answer an increasingly complicated question:

What’s on, when is it on, and where can I watch it?

Available through FreeCast.com/Sports, FreeCast Sports provides a centralized guide to live and upcoming sporting events, helping consumers identify games, schedules, leagues and available viewing sources from one destination. When games are live, FreeCast Sports also provides live scoring, allowing fans to follow game action while navigating the sports viewing landscape.

The service is designed to address the increasing fragmentation of sports television. Games and events are now distributed across traditional broadcast networks, cable channels, regional sports networks, streaming services and other digital platforms, often requiring consumers to search across multiple apps and services simply to determine where a particular event is available.

FreeCast Sports is designed to make that process simpler.

“Sports may be one of the best examples of why television needs a universal discovery layer,” said William Mobley, CEO of FreeCast. “Fans shouldn’t have to search multiple apps, networks and websites just to figure out where tonight’s game is playing. FreeCast Sports is built around three simple questions: What do you want to watch? When is it on? And where can you watch it? And once the game begins, fans can come back to follow the live score.”

One Starting Point for Sports

FreeCast Sports is designed as a broad sports guide rather than another individual sports network or subscription service.

Through the destination, users can explore sports programming across categories and leagues, including professional and college sports, with the guide supporting football, basketball, baseball, hockey and other sports.

Users can navigate by viewing windows including Live Now, Today, Tonight, This Week and This Weekend, while also filtering events by sport and league.

For individual events, FreeCast Sports can provide information including:

  • Live scoring for games in progress
  • Date and game time
  • Teams and matchups
  • League and sport
  • Game status
  • Television channel or viewing source information
  • Live and upcoming events
  • Sports and league filtering

The objective is straightforward: before searching through multiple television guides, streaming applications and websites, sports fans can start with FreeCast and when the games are underway, return to follow the live scores.

From Discovery to Game Time

The addition of live scoring expands FreeCast Sports beyond a traditional programming guide.

Before a game, fans can use FreeCast Sports to determine what is playing, when it starts and where it can be watched. During live games, the destination can provide current scoring information, creating a continuing sports utility throughout the viewing day.

That combination is intended to make FreeCast Sports a simple starting point for navigating an increasingly fragmented sports media marketplace.

“The goal is bigger than telling someone that a game starts at 8:00,” Mobley said. “We want FreeCast Sports to be useful before the game, when you’re deciding what to watch and where to find it, and during the game, when you want to see what’s happening. Discovery, viewing information and live scoring belong together.”

Sports Discovery Without Another Sports “Walled Garden”

FreeCast’s strategy is based on aggregation and discovery rather than requiring every sporting event to be available directly through FreeCast.

Where applicable, FreeCast can help consumers identify the legitimate television, streaming or other viewing source carrying an event. Availability of particular games, networks and services varies based on geography, rights, subscriptions and other restrictions imposed by applicable content providers.

That agnostic approach is consistent with FreeCast’s broader media strategy: helping consumers navigate an increasingly fragmented television marketplace while allowing content owners, broadcasters, streaming services and other distribution partners to maintain their respective consumer relationships.

“We don’t believe the answer to streaming fragmentation is another closed streaming service,” Mobley continued. “The opportunity is to create the guide above those services, helping consumers discover what they want, follow what is happening, and identify the appropriate place to watch it.”

Expanding FreeCast’s Sports Strategy

FreeCast Sports builds upon the Company’s previously announced sports initiatives, including its dedicated NFL destination, which provides schedules, scores, standings, team information and information intended to help fans determine where individual NFL games can be watched.

The broader FreeCast Sports destination extends that discovery concept across multiple sports and leagues.

The sports initiative also complements FreeCast’s larger platform, which brings together free streaming television, local broadcast television options, premium services, subscription management, content discovery and other media experiences.

As sports distribution continues to evolve across broadcast and streaming environments, FreeCast believes discovery, navigation and real-time sports information can become increasingly important components of the consumer viewing experience.
