New vehicle expands TCGX’s global investment platform with a dedicated focus on biotechnology companies based in Asia

TCGX today announced the closing of the TCGX Asia Life Sciences Fund I, an oversubscribed $600 million investment vehicle backed by a diverse group of international institutional investors. The fund will focus on investing in innovative biotechnology companies based in Asia.

The fund is a new investment vehicle that will operate separately from, but in close synergy with, TCGX’s Flagship Funds, which focus on biotechnology companies in the United States and Europe. Together, the funds will allow TCGX to identify and support differentiated biotechnology companies across the world while maintaining dedicated investment teams and regional focus.

The fund reflects TCGX’s conviction in the growing breadth and quality of biotechnology innovation across Asia and will invest across stages of company development, partnering with entrepreneurs and management teams developing differentiated medicines for patients globally.

“Asia has become an increasingly important source of globally competitive biotechnology innovation,” said Dr. Chen Yu, Founder and Managing Partner of TCGX. “We believe there is a significant opportunity to partner with exceptional entrepreneurs and scientists across the region who are building companies capable of developing transformative medicines for patients worldwide. The Asia Fund gives us a dedicated platform to pursue these opportunities while leveraging the broader capabilities and network of TCGX.”

In connection with the launch of the fund, TCGX is expanding its operations to Asia, with new offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

“We are seeing exceptional growth in the quality of science, entrepreneurial talent, and company formation across the Asian biotechnology ecosystem,” said Dandan Dong, Managing Partner of TCGX in Asia. “Our goal is to partner with the most promising biotechnology companies in the region and bring TCGX’s investment experience, scientific expertise, and global network to help them realize their potential on a global scale.”

The closing of the fund expands TCGX’s ability to invest behind compelling science across the world while maintaining distinct regional investment strategies.
