OneNYC Launches in Support of Zohran Mamdani

OneNYC Aims to Rally City’s Business Community Around Mr. Mamdani’s Economic Agenda and Partnering on Solutions that Move New York City Forward

Today marks the official launch of OneNYC, the independent expenditure committee formed by a group of business leaders, policymakers and former government officials committed to supporting principled, effective leadership and robust, data-driven policies that:

  1. Make living and doing business in New York City affordable for all
  2. Drive private-sector investment and public-private partnerships
  3. Advance innovation, economic growth and competitiveness of New York City

Starting with electing Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City, OneNYC is building lasting political infrastructure that will champion transformative leadership across the city and state.

New Yorkers deserve principled and effective leadership to address the city’s most pressing needs. With Mr. Mamdani’s fundraising capped at $8 million and the city’s mayoral election just months away, OneNYC is focused on developing real partnerships between key business, labor and philanthropic stakeholders to deepen understanding of the details and implementation of Mr. Mamdani’s agenda. OneNYC will facilitate constructive dialogue among New York’s business leaders and economic experts through a series of one-on-one meetings, roundtables and other venues focused on the core facets of Mr. Mamdani’s agenda, including the productivity and economic benefits of ensuring access to affordable, quality childcare, housing, food and public transportation. The committee also seeks to broaden campaign engagement leading up to Election Day to clarify and dispel misinformation around Mr. Mamdani’s agenda while advancing realistic economic solutions to create a livable city for all New Yorkers.

“Our democracy is built upon respecting the outcomes and the will of our voters, and as New Yorkers, we understand the importance of coming together to address our most pressing issues while maintaining our competitive edge,” said OneNYC Chair Yasser Salem. “If New York City was a country, it would have one of the top 10 largest economies in the world. This moment requires business leaders to disregard distracting noise, identify substantive differences, and partner with our next Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani. We have more in common than differences, and that is getting lost in this process. Now is the time to come together, return to what makes us great, and return to OneNYC.”

Mr. Salem added, “Stretching the hand of partnership with those who agree and disagree has been the cornerstone of Zohran Mandani’s approach. It is the spirit that created energy and enthusiasm surrounding his leadership, and it is what is going to make him an exceptional Mayor of NYC. It’s clear from our discussions that business leaders and investors are ready to move forward and partner with Mr. Mamdani. We invite all who are ready to bring the City forward, co-create meaningful solutions and work as one to join us.

In daily meetings with the New York City business community and CEOs, the OneNYC coalition has gained insight and appreciation for the spirit of partnership and commitment often lost in the noise of ideological politics. This dialogue is enabling OneNYC to bring together those employing New Yorkers and those investing in New York, helping to align all on a new era of economic policies that will improve the lives of all New Yorkers, accelerate our competitiveness and continue driving investment in New York City.

Mr. Salem is a native New Yorker and Partner at Hira Ventures, an investment firm dedicated to building exceptional healthcare and education companies. A former McKinsey & Co executive, Mr. Salem was educated at Harvard Business School and NYU Stern School of Business.

As part of OneNYC’s comprehensive effort to build durable partnerships among the city’s business leaders, corresponding 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofits were founded under the same name to develop research and analysis on the business and economic policies that will improve the lives of all New Yorkers.
