Prostate cancer accounts for one-fifth of all new cancer cases in males in Canada, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. Prostaid Calgary announces its monthly meetings in Calgary to raise awareness, share information, and provide insight about prostate cancer and its related issues.

Prostaid Calgary notes that people diagnosed with prostate cancer need support and a sense of community during treatment. The monthly gatherings are held on the third Wednesday of every month, both in-person and online. Entrance is free, requires no advance registration, and is open to everyone.
Prostate cancer is a serious illness that develops in the prostate glands of men. Approximately 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, and it is more likely to develop in older men above the age of 65. Nonetheless, the risk of prostate cancer varies for each individual, based on factors such as age, race/ethnicity, genetics and lifestyle.
At every meeting, Prostaid Calgary features a medical guest speaker or health specialist to address attendees on a select topic of discussion. It allows time for everyone to share their individual experiences and ask questions.
The organization also arranges a separate monthly meeting for hormone refractory warriors—members of Prostaid Calgary whose prostate cancer has stopped responding to hormone therapy—and other people who are interested in the management of advanced prostate cancer. This meeting is a less formal gathering that focuses on networking, sharing experience, discussing new developments, and sharing access to clinical trials.
In addition to the general and warriors’ meetings, Prostaid Calgary also holds informal support meetings for wives' and caregivers' groups looking to offer journey assistance. People can sign up on the platform if they want to receive meeting reminders and monthly newsletters from the organization.
A spokesperson for the organization said, “We understand that not everyone can make each and every meeting, so all of our meetings are archived online in video format for our members to explore.”
