$7.8 Million Investment Brings Multi-Gig Internet to Rural Communities Across South Carolina
More than 1,250 homes and businesses across multiple South Carolina counties now have access to Comporium’s fiber-based, multi-gigabit internet service. Over the past several months, Comporium built more than 138 miles of fiber to reach these areas, investing over $7.8 million to expand its network. Customers can now access speeds of up to 5 Gigabits per second (Gbps), improving connectivity and quality of life in rural communities.
Comporium funded this expansion through a combination of private investment and state-issued Capital Projects Fund (CPF) grants, made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act and administered by the South Carolina Broadband Office. This partnership allows Comporium to reach more rural locations with its advanced network. The company continues working with state and federal partners to expand and improve service in underserved areas.
This project extended multi-Gigabit internet to rural addresses spread across the following areas in South Carolina:
- Batesburg
- Buford
- Chesnee
- Edgemoor
- Gilbert
- Lancaster
- Liberty Hill
- Pelion
- Ridge Spring
- Rock Hill
- Swansea
- Tradesville
In addition, Comporium partnered with the Town of Chesnee to install public Wi-Fi at Cada Park near downtown. The company also worked with community partners to provide educational sessions on internet basics for residents in newly served areas. These partners included the ABBE Regional Library System, Fort Mill School District, Lexington County Library System, Saluda County Library System, USC Lancaster, and York School District.
Residents and businesses in these areas may place an order and schedule installation appointments through Comporium’s website at www.comporium.com.
