Born and reared in Santiago, Chile, Kohan later pursued graduate studies in the United States under Fulbright and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) fellowships that paved the way for a career of storytelling across cultures, memories, and transformation.

After a brief return to Chile, Kohan settled in the United States for good, where he has continued to be active in producing provocative fiction. Currently residing in Boynton Beach, Florida, and Sharon, Massachusetts, he continues to be an active author, pondering issues of identity, human survival, and the passage of time.
