Vaneese Thomas Announces New Album, 'Fight The Good Fight'

By: PRLog

Eighth career album and Blue Heart Records' debut slated for April 15, 2022 release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Feb. 23, 2022 - PRLog -- On Monday, February 21 at City Winery in New York City, Vaneese Thomas sang two tracks from her new album, as a special guest of the Black Opry Revue, accompanied by Al Orlo on guitar. Black Opry is a home for Black artists and fans of country, blues, folk, and Americana music. The organization recently invited Thomas to be a special guest at a songwriters circle held in Memphis, an event which has inspired her to continue that relationship. "It's an organization that's dedicated to making sure the doors are open in roots music for African-Americans," she says. "I'm hoping to do more with the organization, whatever they need me to do, to sort of kick those doors open."

Thomas opened her performance with the title track from her new album, "Fight The Good Fight," a strong message of renewed hope inspired in many ways by what she has witnessed with The Black Opry: positivity, inclusivity, and genuine musical and personal acceptance. She next performed "Same Blood Same Bone," a tribute to her "sisters in song," the pioneering women in the music industry, especially women of color, to whom so much is owed. It will be released as the lead single from the new album, available beginning March 4.

Having embraced her musical roots for her last three albums, Fight The Good Fight is a purposeful entrée in to the Americana music community for Thomas. "I'm excited for the seeming inclusivity of Americana and roots music, which came from African-Americans in the first place, and then negated them for so many years. I'd like this album to broaden my fan base," she says, "because I think number one, it has broad appeal, and two, it's some of the best material I've ever written. It's from my heart, and it's from a place of deep experience."

"At the heart of Fight The Good Fight is the common thread of shared humanity and support across generations. Witnessing Vaneese's positive impact on the Black Opry performers and the reciprocal effect on her was a transformative experience. Her fight is clearly fueled with deep passion from all the history she embodies and carries forth to future generations," says Blue Heart Records partner Sallie Bengtson. "The album cover art masterfully connects past, present and future in a single, poignant image."
