John Kim progressed through Venom Survivor Flips to reach the $2,650 Mini Phil’s Thrill.
-- An $0.80 Venom Vault ticket became a $42,700 online poker win for Chicago player John Kim at Americas Cardroom. Playing as DotardEatLysol, Kim advanced through Survivor Flips, earned a $2,650 Mini Phil’s Thrill ticket and won the tournament.
The Sunday, August 9 event drew 61 entries, generated a $152,500 prize pool and paid seven places.
Kim is a 47-year-old sales consultant who has played poker for more than 20 years. He joined Americas Cardroom in 2021, and his previous best online result was about $1,400 in a $21 Hyper.
Venom Vault prizes can include Survivor Flip Step tickets from $0.80 to $350. Survivor Flips are fast all-in Sit & Go tournaments that begin when eight seats fill. Kim started at the lowest ticket level and kept advancing until he held the $2,650 Mini Phil’s Thrill entry.
A key hand arrived with nine players left and seven paid. Holding pocket aces on the button, Kim flat-called a short stack’s shove before the chip leader moved all in for roughly 700,000 with pocket sixes. Kim called, his aces held and his stack rose to about 1.5 million.
Kim reached the money with the chip lead and went on to claim the largest score of his career by a wide margin. He plans to use the payout for transportation, housing and the care of his three dogs.
