Los Angeles, CA - March 31, 2026 - The 4th Annual MENASA Diversity Actors Showcase returns this spring as a growing industry initiative focused on expanding visibility and access for actors of Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian, and Southwest Asian (MENASA / SWANA) descent.
The initiative arrives amid continued industry disparities. According to research presented by the MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition (MAAC), 78% of MENA characters on television are portrayed as terrorists, soldiers, or tyrants, reinforcing long-standing stereotypes and limiting authentic representation on screen.
Presented by the Studio For Performing Arts Los Angeles and its Foundation in collaboration with the Hollywood Arab Film Festival (HAFF) and the Casting Society, the showcase connects MENASA/SWANA actors with casting directors, agents, managers, and producers through both live and digital pathways for talent discovery.
Founded by actor, director, and educator Walid Chaya, the initiative is designed to help bridge the gap between talent and access across the entertainment industry.
“The MENASA showcase was created to help bridge the gap between talent and access,” said Chaya. “By bringing together industry professionals and a wide range of performers, we’re creating a space where visibility can translate into real opportunity on stage and screen.”
A Growing Industry Platform for Talent Discovery
Since its launch, the MENASA Diversity Actors Showcase has connected dozens of actors with industry professionals across major markets including Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C., while continuing to expand its national reach.
The 2026 edition builds on that momentum through a hybrid model designed for both in-person and nationwide industry engagement:
-
A curated private database of actor submissions will be shared with participating casting professionals, providing an ongoing resource for discovering MENASA/SWANA talent
-
A live showcase will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Culver City Theatre in Los Angeles, featuring selected actors performing one-minute monologues for invited industry guests
This dual-access approach positions the showcase as both a live industry event and a scalable casting resource.
Continued Industry Engagement
The initiative was developed with early support from the MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition (MAAC) and continues to grow through collaboration with organizations such as the Casting Society, reflecting a broader industry effort to expand access to underrepresented talent.
Submissions for the 2026 showcase are currently open and free to U.S.-based MENASA/SWANA actors of all ages nationwide, further reinforcing the initiative’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
