HaiLa’s ultra-low power communications solution has been paired with Energous’ over-the-air wireless power networks, resulting in innovative ambient powered solutions.
HaiLa Technologies, a provider of advanced low-power wireless semiconductor solutions for both Ambient and Intelligent connectivity, today announced the public showcase of its ultra-low power communications solution for Wi-Fi, powered by RF Energy harvesting.
The HaiLa solution is compatible with various energy harvesting technologies. Harvesting RF energy from an over-the-air wireless power network suits numerous IoT applications, including asset and inventory tracking and smart building implementations.
The HaiLa development board features the HaiLa BSC2000 Passive Backscatter on Wi-Fi chip combined with Energous’ PowerBridge transmitter system, allowing the HaiLa device to consistently provide data to the network and cloud.
"Supporting RF energy harvesting further demonstrates the low power capabilities of HaiLa’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology. Ambient powered devices will eliminate the need for batteries in certain connected sensing applications," stated Patricia Bower, VP Product Management at HaiLa. "Ambient IoT reduces operational expenses by making sensing devices maintenance-free."
HaiLa’s low-power communication chips are instrumental in reducing the energy consumption of connected devices to near zero levels. HaiLa’s optimized active transmit and backscatter adaptations use only a fraction of the power consumed by typical Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radio architectures, enabling smaller batteries, a single battery throughout the product's lifespan, or no battery at all by leveraging harvested energy.
“Energous’ wireless power technology is a catalyst for the ambient IoT revolution,” said Giampaolo Marino, SVP of Strategy and Business Development at Energous. “By removing the need for batteries and enabling continuous, maintenance-free sensing over existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, we’re helping unlock a future of truly energy-autonomous, intelligent IoT devices. We look forward to collaborating with HaiLa to demonstrate the power of a new generation of intelligent, wireless, and battery-free IoT that’s poised to positively disrupt industries.”
HaiLa and Energous will participate in the industry event Sensors Converge from June 24 to 26, 2025, at the Santa Clara Convention Centre.
