AccessMule, a new cybersecurity company founded and controlled by Mosyle, a leader in Apple Device Management & Security, today announced the public release of its integrated SMB-focused Access & Password Management platform, designed to address every need of SMBs and similar organizations related to granting, managing, auditing, sharing, storing, and removing employee access.
The lack of proper access and credentials management represents the main cybersecurity threat to small and medium businesses (SMBs) and similar organizations, causing a permanent and hidden exposure to data loss and theft, ransomware attacks, and consequential human errors that can in several cases risk the existence of the organization.
This risk was unveiled through comprehensive research performed in partnership with a leading research agency including 400 senior decision-makers of United States based organizations ranging from 50 to 500 employees.
The results of the research reveal a significant security gap and dangerous overconfidence in how SMBs manage employee access. The findings show that 87% of SMB leaders admit they cannot immediately verify which employees have access to each company’s permissions. In connection with that, the same number also confirmed they fail to promptly revoke former employees’ access when they leave, exposing a significant and overlooked vulnerability in their security posture.
Even more concerning is the fact that nearly 90% of the surveyed SMB organizations suspected or discovered that former employees still had access to company applications after leaving the company, often long after their departure.

“The results of the survey are alarming, as they clearly demonstrate that well-known cybersecurity risks, famous for being the recurring cause of the most impactful cybersecurity attacks and breaches in history, are probably present in nearly all small and medium businesses. And what makes it even more dangerous is that due to the lack of resources, SMB leaders are not even aware of what can easily represent the main security risk threatening the existence of their organizations,” said Sergio Sousa, Executive Leader, AccessMule. “So AccessMule was created with the mission to not only unhide these risks, but also effectively address them, while embracing characteristics that are critical for SMBs, such as automation, ease-of-use, simplicity, and affordability.”
AccessMule’s robust platform provides a range of capabilities to address the critical access management needs of SMBs, including:
- Access tracking, granting and removal workflows to eliminate the risk of former employees retaining or current employees holding unnecessary access to company systems. By automating onboarding and offboarding processes, organizations can seamlessly grant and revoke access, as needed.
- Role-based access control (RBAC) features grant permissions in bulk, making it easy to assign permissions for new employees based on their role with a single action.
- Affordable, plug-and-play security with a user-friendly interface that doesn’t require complicated integrations or a heavy IT lift.
- Real-time visibility into all company permission and user accounts to help prevent security breaches and ensure the company can immediately generate access information for auditing or monitoring purposes.
- Zero-knowledge password management to empower organizations to safely store credentials and enforce password policies with a centralized, fully encrypted, company managed tool.
- Safe password sharing so all team members with the need to use the same set of credentials can do it safely and with visibility, while automated rotation workflows will ensure that former employees do not retain knowledge of shared credentials.
- Shared multi-factor authentication that allows all members with access to shared credentials to also leverage a powerful but simple feature that gives them access to shared MFA codes while they actively have access to each permission, eliminating the need for storing MFA codes on personal devices and constantly sharing them using inappropriate and unsafe methods.
“Similar to the origin of other of our cybersecurity products, the decision to build AccessMule was born out of necessity at Mosyle,” said Alcyr Araujo, CEO, Mosyle. “Later, we realized it wasn’t just a gap for our organization, but a fundamental problem that needed to be solved for all SMBs. We’re launching AccessMule today as an independent subsidiary that will empower organizations with a high-quality, secure and efficient access and password management platform at an affordable price, a model that became a trademark for Mosyle.”
