Oregon’s Longview Ranch Discusses Water Conservation Efforts

Longview Ranch, located along Central Oregon’s historic Route 19 in Kimberly, maintains 30,000 stunning acres of diverse landscape. Nearly two percent of that acreage produces top-quality grass hay and Alfalfa to feed the cattle herd through the winter and provide hay to sell to neighboring ranches.

Longview Ranch produces tons of hay each year and sells just over a quarter of its production, depending on the year. As it irrigates its fields, Oregon’s Longview Ranch has installed nearly 20 pivot-style sprinklers. While expensive, these sprinklers conserve erosion and water long-term, which remains a priority at Longview Ranch.

Even during a drought year, these sprinklers also allow Longview Ranch to water the ground so they continue to produce great Alfalfa and grass hay without water-waste or eroding the fields.
