The Puutpulpa design was brought to life by Emma MacNeill, a Brisbane-based artist and proud Yamatji Martu woman. “Puutpulpa” translates to football in Martu Wangka, with the ball’s artwork symbolising journey, connection, and resilience. The circular motifs represent community and paths walked by ancestors, while the “U” symbols reflect the presence of grandmothers and daughters, paying tribute to the enduring influence of women in sport.

Six AFLW clubs will take on their traditional place names, such as Walyalup (Fremantle) and Narrm (Melbourne), further deepening the connection between country, culture, and competition.
