Beatrice Fairbanks Cayzer’s New Book Set in Africa Captures the Fight for Love in Devastating Circumstances

The themes of horror, poverty, and greed resonating in the book are no match for the flames of love that burn within its characters

Love is life’s rollercoaster. The rare opportunity to hop on this ride remains a hill that many have sworn to die on, while others stand in the distance, envious of those who are willing to try and secretly wishing they had their courage. Some who may never have this earth-shattering experience or could never comprehend such a lofty thought have the opportunity to do so with Beatrice Fairbanks Cayzer’s new book, Love Stories in Africa.

Love Stories in Africa was published in August 2021 and revolves around two women whose lives are upended in the African countries of Sudan and Ethiopia. In this whirlwind and intense romance, the heroines find true love in the unlikeliest of places. One in a refugee camp and the other in a war-brewing city waiting to explode.

In one era, a destitute English widow in Ethiopia struggles to survive amidst the recurring attacks of a power-hungry warlord that insists on personal gain in the face of the displacement situation in his country. In the other story, set in the 1930s, the coronation of one of Ethiopia’s greatest leaders assures citizens of luxury. However, war soon follows, and the life of an American teenage orphan hangs in the balance. She is rescued by her knight in shining armor - a British officer who risks his life for her. Above all, the author’s message in the novel is clear: love is like a seed bursting through cracks in concrete; it grows where it wants.

The brutally honest dialogue and the gentle nuances will make the reader pause in appreciation of the commitment, passion, courage, desire, and even sorrow displayed by the characters. In addition, the author’s vivid writing and intelligent details of the African countries are a result of her love and decades of interaction with the continent. Beatrice Fairbanks Cayzer visited Africa twice when her father became the United States ambassador to Ethiopia. Beatrice’s husband, Stanley, fought Rommel in the Western Desert, while her grandfather-in-law, Sir Charles Cayzer, helped the pygmies and founded the Clan Line, which serves the west coast of Africa and South Africa to this day. Beatrice is also the author of several articles that have been featured in Esquire, Travel, House & Garden, Town & Country, and Good Housekeeping, to name a few.

Love Stories in Africa is available for purchase as a Kindle, hardcover, or paperback copy for $2.99, $8.44, and $16.42 respectively.
