Churches of Scientology Celebrate May as the Month when Dianetics, the Modern Science of Mental Health was Released

Churches of Scientology around the world are celebrating the anniversary of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health’s release with community events focusing on handling problems of stress and other unwanted conditions.

Since 1949, May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month, and dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health.

Each year during the month of May, the Church of Scientology celebrates the anniversary of the publication of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health and pays tribute to all of those who have used Dianetics technology to help people to better understand themselves, alleviate stress, and address unwanted conditions.

Events have been scheduled by Churches of Scientology around the world to celebrate the anniversary of Dianetics and are open to those who are interested in Dianetics and want to find out more about how to use Dianetics to help themselves and others.

L. Ron Hubbard’s groundbreaking self-help book, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was released in May of 1950 and remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 28 weeks that year alone.

In Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, L. Ron Hubbard described in detail the reactive mind, which he had discovered to be the source of nightmares, unreasonable fears, upsets, insecurities and psychosomatic illness. The book also set forth effective handlings for these conditions. It was application of the procedures of Dianetics that led to the discovery of the spiritual nature of man and the founding of the Scientology religion. The Church of Scientology has continued to grow since then and is now established in over 60 countries throughout the world.

Dianetics comes from the Greek dia meaning “through” and nous, “mind or soul.” Dianetics if further defined as “what the soul is doing to the body.”  Dianetics is a methodology which can help alleviate unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses (illnesses caused or aggravated by mental stress).

“Mental health is as important to all of us as our physical health, and sharing successful approaches with others is vital,” said Dan Zacharius, a Dianetics counselor in Washington, DC. “Helping others has become my life’s work.”
