The River Source Conducts Brief Addiction Monitor Risk Study

Arizona City, AZ, 7/12/2022 —The River Source has recently conducted an internal study on the efficacy of long-term rehabilitation enrollment using the Brief Addiction Monitor (BAM). The study consisted of an individual BAM-R (Brief Addiction Monitor-Revised) questionnaire for 603 of their clients, which assessed risk and protection of and from future drug use, based upon client answers. The results showed that the longer their clients stay enrolled within one of The River Source’s programs, the higher the likelihood of lasting sobriety. The findings reinforce The River Source’s “Reclaim 120” model, which recommends 120 days in rehabilitation.

“It’s really remarkable the strides and progress made in one hundred and twenty days,” said the CEO of The River Source, Darrin Miller. “The BAM-R based study on our own clients shows just how necessary longer-term rehabilitation is for lasting success throughout the recovery journey. The proof is in our clients’ results, and the BAM-R metrics give a fuller picture of what recovery can look like. Backed with the data from the study, it shows how much more effective a longer period of rehabilitation is.”

The BAM-R study calculates risk and protection by asking questions related to recent substance abuse patterns, cravings, confidence and satisfaction levels in recovery, support system factors, physical health patterns, financial security, mental health, and spirituality. The assessments were administered to clients every 30 days, or at the beginning and end of each level of care. The results of the study displayed a link between increased protection from use and decreased risk of use the longer the client remained in rehabilitation. The River Source’s “Reclaim 120” program is aimed at treating addiction as a chronic problem that cannot be solved with short-term care. Many clients can underestimate the length of time necessary for rehabilitation.

“When we say, ‘reclaim your life’, that can mean many things to many different people,” said Miller. “For anyone struggling with addiction, we now know with much greater certainty that the ‘Reclaim 120’ program gives the necessary tools to a lifetime of sobriety that shorter programs simply can’t, based on length. The methods and metrics used in the study explore the various aspects that relate to what most people would consider success.”
