Houston, TexasHank Stout, founding attorney at Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm, has published Houston Car Accident Compensation: What Your Case Is Really Worth, an ebook that explains how crash type, injury severity, and Texas law together decide what a car accident claim is worth. Hank Stout is a board-certified personal injury trial lawyer in Houston, Texas, and the author of the ebook, which was released on August 24, 2026. He is also the host of Houston Car and Truck Accident Law, the podcast whose recorded conversations the book was adapted from.

Houston Car Accident Compensation: What Your Case Is Really Worth is a twelve-chapter ebook written by Hank Stout, a car accident and truck accident attorney at Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm in Houston, Texas, that covers how a Texas car accident claim is valued, proven, and paid. The first half of the book addresses crash type and fault: rear-end and head-on collisions, the right-of-way question in T-bone crashes at intersections, and the multi-vehicle pileups, rollovers, and hit-and-run cases where responsibility is hardest to assign. The second half addresses injury type and damages: soft-tissue injuries and whiplash, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, broken bones and future medical costs, and burns, disfigurement, and psychological trauma.

The book states specific Texas rules that decide recovery. Under Chapter 33 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, a jury assigns each party a percentage of responsibility, a claimant’s award is reduced by that percentage, and a claimant found more than 50 percent responsible recovers nothing. In a chain-reaction crash, a defendant found more than 50 percent responsible can be held liable for all of the damages. Personal injury protection coverage is required on a Texas auto policy unless the policyholder signs a written waiver, with a minimum of $2,500, according to the Texas Department of Insurance. Later chapters cover treatment gaps, maximum medical improvement, life care planners, lost earning capacity, and the notice deadlines that apply to a claim against a government vehicle under the Texas Tort Claims Act.

Stout has practiced personal injury law in Texas since 2005 and is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 2004, where he was a member of the Law Review, and began his career at the insurance-defense firm Phelps Dunbar before co-founding Sutliff & Stout with Graham Sutliff in 2008. Texas Super Lawyers has recognized him each year from 2014 through 2026, following Rising Stars selections from 2012 through 2014. He is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

“Almost every client who sits across from me asks the same question before anything else. What is my case worth? It is a fair question, and it is the right one to ask. The honest answer is that it depends. I know that is not the answer most people are hoping for. But stay with me, because it depends on things you can actually understand, and that is what this book is about.”
