Nodal Exchange announced today the August 31st planned launch of 168 new power hourly futures contracts available across 7 locations, including:

  • ERCOT.HB_NORTH
  • ERCOT.HB_SOUTH
  • ERCOT.HB_WEST
  • ERCOT.HB_HOUSTON
  • PJM.WESTERN HUB
  • PJM.AEP-DAYTON HUB
  • PJM.N ILLINOIS HUB

For each location, there will be 24 contracts available representing a single hour of the day, with the next 5 days of expiries available for trading. These new power contracts will allow participants to manage real-time positions, hour-by-hour, directly on Nodal and are the first hourly futures contracts to be offered by Nodal Exchange.

The power hourly contracts, offered alongside Nodal’s existing daily and monthly contracts, are scheduled to be available August 31st for both block and electronic trading subject to regulatory compliance.

This announcement follows the launch earlier this year of power daily futures and late last year of Nodal Exchange’s new web-based, electronic trading platform, Nodal Access. The platform provides users with a secure and flexible system to execute screen-based trades across all of Nodal Exchange’s asset classes.

“The launch of hourly power futures contracts provides the ability to hedge power prices within the day which is particularly beneficial to those impacted by increasing battery usage,” said Paul Cusenza, Chairman and CEO of Nodal Exchange. “We look forward to continuing to develop and offer innovative products that address the dynamic needs of the markets we serve.”

Nodal’s new hourly power futures contracts extend its offering of the largest set of electric power futures and options contracts in the world. Nodal Exchange is the market leader in North American power futures having the majority share of the open interest with 1.5 billion MWh as of the end of June 2026.
