Incident believed to have been caused by a natural gas rupture

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews are investigating and searching debris in the wake of the May 28th natural gas explosion at a residential apartment building in Oak Cliff near Dallas' Bishop Arts District, and the experienced trial attorneys of respected Texas-based personal injury law firm Zehl & Associates are monitoring the situation closely.

The most recent reports list three dead, including a child, and at least four injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but initial reports suggest a contractor working at the apartment complex may have struck a gas line.

"This is an especially tragic situation for everyone involved," said Ryan Zehl, the founder of Zehl & Associates. "The people caught in these kinds of disasters need all the assistance and resources we can provide, from understanding what their legal options are, to helping ensure evidence is preserved, finding them the best medical care available, and holding the parties at fault accountable."

While every investigation is unique, these disasters frequently involve preventable safety failures such as:

  • Improper utility-locating procedures
  • Failure to follow excavation safety protocols
  • Defective or poorly maintained gas infrastructure
  • Fire suppression system failures
  • Building code violations
  • Inadequate emergency shutoff procedures
  • Negligent property maintenance
  • Faulty smoke detectors or alarm systems

For more than two decades, Zehl & Associates has represented victims and families affected by some of the worst gas explosions and industrial fires in Texas history, including the Fort Worth Sandman Hotel Explosion in January 2024, a case where the firm is representing more than 20 employees, guests, and family members who were injured.

Survivors of gas explosions often suffer severe, life-altering injuries, including burns, traumatic brain injuries, lung damage from smoke or chemical inhalation, fractures and crush injuries from collapsing debris, amputations, emotional trauma, and PTSD. Many survivors face lasting physical, emotional, and financial consequences long after the headlines fade.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this disaster, we encourage you to contact Zehl & Associates at 1-888-486-8217.
