The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”), presented $55,000 to Josselyn, a non-profit community-based mental health center, in support of its Intensive Outpatient Program (“IOP”) that provides comprehensive behavioral health care services to adolescents in northern Illinois. The grant will help fund clinical staff, transportation to services, therapeutic supplies, and program materials, bridging barriers to behavioral health care.

Across the country, behavioral health challenges are increasing among children, with recent data showing that almost 40% of high schoolers experienced depressive symptoms in 2023. In Illinois, the number of children who had one or more worsening mental health symptoms ranged from 49% to 54% over recent years. To meet the needs of Illinois’ children, this funding from MolinaCares will help address this growing behavioral health crisis, supporting weekly family and group therapy sessions and psychiatry sessions, and funding transportation to and from these services.

The IOP treatment plan provides a higher level of care within a group setting, with the goal of avoiding hospital-based inpatient programs. Therapists, psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, case managers, and school coordinators work together to provide care and equip adolescents with the skills needed to better cope with mental health challenges.
