The Center for Oral Health (COH) is proud to announce the upcoming release of its white paper, Water Fluoridation: Facts vs. Fears. This timely publication reaffirms COH’s commitment to promoting oral health equity through evidence-based research and celebrates the organization’s foundational role in advocating for water fluoridation as a cornerstone of public health.
Since its establishment in 1985, COH has been at the forefront of advancing oral health initiatives, including water fluoridation, to reduce disparities and improve outcomes for children and underserved populations. Water Fluoridation: Facts vs. Fears provides a comprehensive examination of the scientific evidence supporting fluoridation, addresses common misconceptions, and highlights its economic and societal benefits.
“While water fluoridation remains a topic of debate, it is one of the most effective and cost-efficient public health interventions to combat dental decay,” said Tiffany Turner, Interim CEO of the Center for Oral Health. “This paper underscores COH’s dedication to facts and research, and celebrates 40 years of progress in oral health advocacy.”
The white paper features the Early Smiles Sacramento (ESS) program as a case study, showcasing the positive impact of integrating fluoride varnish applications with oral health education to promote preventive care, including the use of fluoridated tap water for brushing. Since its inception in 2016, ESS has reached over 132,000 children in Sacramento County, contributing to improved oral health outcomes and addressing barriers to care.
COH invites public health professionals, policymakers, and community leaders to engage with this critical publication. The white paper is available HERE
