Inovia Vein Specialty Centers announce that Rachel Drgastin was awarded the 2022 Walter P. de Groote Scholar award on October 15th by the American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS).
Established in 1996, this award recognizes the significant contribution of Dr. Walter P. de Groot in advancing the specialty of venous and lymphatic disease by providing access for physicians seeking to advance their training in venous and lymphatic medicine. This prestigious national award further enables leading medical students, residents, and fellows access to the educational benefits of the American Vein & Lymphatic Society (AVLS). The purpose of this award is to continue Dr. de Groot’s mission of promoting the sharing and exchange of venous and lymphological knowledge.
Rachel Drgastin is an aspiring medical student working at the Inovia Vein Specialty Centers, where she engages in both education and research on venous and lymphatic topics. “We are so proud of Rachel for being recognized with this prestigious, national award for her research contributions,” said Edward Boyle, MD, Founder and Director of the Inovia Vein Specialty Centers. Ms. Drgastin presented her entitled “Anterior Saphenous Vein Reflux: Systemic Review of the Literature and Payer Coverage Policies” at the American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS) Annual Congress, which was held October 13-16, 2022, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“The prevalence of vein disease is over 40% in the population and has a significant negative impact on patient quality of life,” said Andrew Jones, MD, Co-Founder of the Inovia Vein Specialty Centers. “This research collaboration that includes Ms Drgastin’s work is important to help identify barriers to treatment and promote evidence and consensus based practices.” Dr. Jones was the recipient of the Walter P. De Groote Scholarship in 2008.
