Born in Athens, Greece, she came to the United States with limited English skills and worked tirelessly to succeed academically. "I came here as an international student with a student visa, and I didn't even speak the language," she said. "I was with my dictionary in the library all day and all night, trying to figure things out. I didn't understand what the professors were saying during their lectures." That early resilience has been a theme throughout her career and has strongly contributed to her success.

Before focusing primarily on teaching and volunteer work, Ms. Vrana spent 16 years in Columbia University's finance department. From 2018 to 2025, she served as a category manager, overseeing procurement strategies, managing vendor relationships and supporting the university's financial operations. Earlier, from 2008 to 2018, she worked as a contract officer, managing complex contractual agreements and contributing to administrative and financial processes across the institution. During much of that period, she also taught at Columbia University, balancing two demanding roles for nearly a decade.

Prior to joining Columbia, Ms. Vrana built an accomplished career at Sotheby's in New York. She began as a credit analyst from 1998 to 1999, evaluating client creditworthiness and supporting risk management. She then served as a client representative from 1999 to 2004, acting as a liaison between clients and the auction house. From 2004 to 2008, she served as an account manager, ultimately managing the financial aspects of part of Sotheby's New York auctions. These roles strengthened the analytical, client service and financial management skills she later brought to higher education.

Ms. Vrana's academic achievements have been central to her professional growth. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco in 1988, a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University in 1990 and a Master's Business Certificate in Finance and Management from Columbia University in 2014. She considers these three degrees among her greatest achievements. "My three degrees really opened many professional doors for me," she said.

In addition to her work at Columbia, Ms. Vrana is committed to service and mentorship. She volunteers with Read Ahead, an organization that helps elementary school students develop a love of reading. She has also applied to mentor international students in George Washington University's MBA program, a natural extension of her passion for helping others navigate academic and professional challenges.

Ms. Vrana is also preparing to publish a book she co-authored about women's success and happiness, focused on common principles that can help women balance family, work, personal growth and purpose. Through this book, she hopes to encourage women to believe in their abilities, pursue education and understand that family and career can coexist with determination and support.

Speaking with Marquis Who's Who, she shared that she attributes her success to faith, family, communication skills and hard work. A deeply spiritual person who prays and goes to her church regularly, she believes in a greater power that governs the universe, and she credits her faith with helping her persevere through challenges. She also considers her son, Gregory, and her daughter-in-law, Neda, to be central to her life and her greatest blessings and achievements.

Looking ahead, Ms. Vrana plans to continue teaching, volunteering and mentoring while giving back to her community. Her goal is to help students, women and young professionals recognize their potential and pursue their goals with courage. "I want to help out, especially women," she said. "I want to help women, and I want to give back. That's what I want to do. I want to help other kids. I want to help my students."
