UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 2, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who honors Ilene Fennoy, MD, MPH, for her work in pediatrics, endocrinology and medical education. With more than 45 years of experience, she has built a career marked by research, clinical care and leadership in treating childhood obesity and growth disorders.

About Ilene Fennoy
Dr. Fennoy is a professor of pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an attending physician at both NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Harlem Hospital Center. She is a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist with special expertise in childhood obesity, insulin resistance and Klinefelter syndrome. In this role, she collaborates with patients and contributes to the development of forward-looking approaches to treating children with complex growth and hormonal conditions.
At the start of her career, Dr. Fennoy worked at Harlem Hospital, where she served as chief of pediatric endocrinology and later advanced into leadership positions, including vice president of clinical affairs for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. She went on to direct the division of pediatric endocrinology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital before returning to Columbia University to continue her academic and clinical work.
Buoyed by her education, Dr. Fennoy completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at Stanford University in 1968 and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine in 1973. She trained as an intern and resident at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, followed by a fellowship in human nutrition at Columbia University and clinical associate training at the National Institutes of Health. In 1993, she earned a master's degree in public health with a focus on health policy and administration from Columbia University.
Advocating for Children's Health
Throughout her career, Dr. Fennoy has focused much of her research and teaching on childhood obesity, which she considers one of the most pressing health challenges of today. She notes that new medications, precision medicine and genetic research are changing how doctors approach weight and growth disorders in children. She has written key articles in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, the Journal of Obesity and other leading publications.
Equally important, Dr. Fennoy's work has centered on mentorship. She has trained many fellows in pediatric endocrinology, several of whom now lead programs in pediatric obesity. She views their success as one of her proudest achievements and emphasizes the importance of guiding the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Fennoy's accomplishments have earned her wide recognition. She has been listed in New York magazine's Best Doctors in New York for 16 consecutive years. She will receive the Endocrine Society's Outstanding Leadership Award in 2025. She has also been honored with a certificate of appreciation from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Alumni Community Service Award from Northfield Mount Hermon School.
A Commitment to Health Care
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr. Fennoy actively participates in civic and professional leadership. She serves on the board of the Women in Medicine Legacy Foundation, where she also chairs the Alma Deo Morani Awards Committee and co-chairs the equity, diversity and inclusion task force of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. These roles reflect her dedication to creating opportunities for women and underrepresented groups in the medical field.
Looking ahead, Dr. Fennoy plans to retire within the next five years. Until then, she remains focused on mentoring young physicians and helping shape the field as it adapts to new treatments and scientific advances. She believes adaptability and constant learning remain the keys to progress in pediatric endocrinology.
