Marquis Who's Who Honors Jacqueline Lewis for Human Rights Advocacy

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / February 25, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who has honored Jacqueline Lewis, BA, LLB, LLM, for her work in human rights advocacy. Diversified in several fields of interest, Ms. Lewis is a distinguished attorney, author, kayaker and human rights advocate. Since 1991, she has excelled as the founder and managing partner of her eponymous law firm, Lewis & Associates, in Toronto, Canada. She also taught as a law instructor at Carleton University and Western University and served as president of Two-Wheeling Women Bike Touring Company between 2013 and 2020. Likewise, Ms. Lewis has served as president of the board of directors for Egale Canada, which is Canada's only national LGBTQI human rights charity.

Ms. Lewis pursued a formal education at York University to prepare for her career, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. She subsequently attended Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario) and earned a bachelor's degree in law in 1989. After some years in her industry, Ms. Lewis returned to higher education and obtained a master's degree in administrative law from the York University Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999. For her contributions to law in Canada and particularly her dedication to the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring access to justice, she received the Laura Legge Award in 2020 and the Torcherer's award in 2023.

Impressively, Ms. Lewis spearheaded the first LGBTQ+ shelter and transitional housing project in her city, again demonstrating her passion for human rights. Likewise, she was the first woman to circumnavigate Prince Edward Island by kayak and won seven medals from the Canadian National Masters Championship for Kayaking. Furthermore, Ms. Lewis is the author of the 2013 book "The Question of Identity."

Ms. Lewis attributes much of her success to her hard work and determination values. She says, "The biggest thing that has made me successful is caring about what I do. As a result, I learn as much as I can about the needs of other people, where they come from, what they've been through and how to approach them in a way that they feel understood. This is what I'm trying to impart to people and my students. I'm always making sure to impart information in a way that is not scary for other people."

Ms. Lewis advises that having a passion for diversity is important, as it provides rich opportunities for others to learn. Furthermore, she credits her innate understanding of individuals as a factor leading to her success, including knowing what her clients need and how she can help them to the best of her ability. In the coming years, Ms. Lewis intends to pass down the firm to deserving hands who will continue her legacy while she pursues other projects to improve conditions in marginalized communities.
