Compass Bancshares Announces the Appointment of C. Edward Whitworth to Board of Directors

Compass Bancshares, Inc. today announced that it has appointed C. Edward “Eddie” Whitworth to the board of directors of Compass Bancshares, Inc. Mr. Whitworth was formerly chairman of the board for LNB (formerly Laredo National Bank).

Eddie is an accomplished leader with outstanding experience and our organization will benefit greatly from his expertise and knowledge. Whitworth is a veteran Texas banker with more than 30 years of senior management experience. He most recently served as City President for LNB. Throughout his career, he has worked in virtually every aspect of banking, including lending, credit, audit and trust. Prior to that, he served as president of South Texas National Bank.

“Eddie has made invaluable contributions to the Laredo community and to our business. He has been instrumental in integrating LNB into BBVA Compass. This appointment recognizes both the importance of these Texas markets to our organization’s future and Eddie’s contribution to our success. As a member of the Compass Bancshares board he will continue to serve the Laredo business community, working ‘hand-in-hand’ with BBVA Compass leadership in the market,” said Manolo Sanchez, President and CEO of BBVA Compass.

Whitworth is a graduate of Texas A&I University and a certified public accountant. He is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Laredo Chamber of Commerce where he previously served on the executive committee and as a member of the board of directors.
