"There's no doubt that San Antonio has promise. It's our goal to ensure that our unique take on sustainable design, equity and inclusion aligns with the culture of our clients - I am happy to report that we are seeing a lot of cross-functional methods we can get involved in the culture here," says Wardell Ross, Senior Associate and Director of Houston Operations.

Architects representing the firm have already met with a number of local officials, as well as attended the TechBloc Reboot Rally in early May in an effort to learn more about San Antonio's moving parts.

"We know and understand just how important MLK Academy is to its surrounding communities.  Working together with SAISD and gaining insight from alumni and leaders has encouraged a deeper appreciation for this campus. It is our goal to create a design that is inclusive," says Melvalean McLemore, Associate Architect and Project Manager.

Estimated renovation costs were awarded from the 2020 Bond Package that approved $1.3B in school renovations throughout the school district. The MLK Academy renovation met requirements for improvement which included schools with main buildings that have not been fully refurbished in more than 50 years.
