He was still there and was in the process of shooting heroin with his arm exposed and a rubber band on his left arm. His eyes were closed, and the syringe was in his arm. I panicked. I waited until he finished, so I could get out. This had me so damn scared. I went and told my stepfather. My stepfather told my mother, which she then told her older brother Manny. This led to a confrontation where my uncle Manny beat the crap out of my uncle Carlos in the middle of the street. My uncle Manny was like the godfather in the drug world. I remember him telling me 'a real drug dealer never uses his own product, only sells it. It's a sign of weakness.' For him, this is how you start to lose control. Those that sell for you will come at you to try to take over; this is my life. I remember saying, 'There's nothing wrong with the way I am,' but at a very young age, I always felt there was something missing in my life. I just didn't know what it was yet."
