On September 12, 2007, Bowater Incorporated issued a news release announcing that its subsidiary Bowater Canadian Forest Products Inc. received an arbitration decision relating to an environmental claim associated with a pulp and paper facility sold by Bowater in 1998. The decision awarded the buyer of the facility approximately C$ 44 million. A copy of the press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
