Founded in 1997, ISMICS brings together surgeons, researchers, trainees and healthcare innovators from around the world to advance less invasive approaches to cardiothoracic surgery and ultimately improve patient outcomes. The organization's international leadership includes representation from North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and other regions.
"ISMICS represents exactly the kind of organization we are passionate about partnering with," said Sue O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Veritas Association Management. "Its members are advancing surgical techniques, technology and education that have a direct impact on the quality of patient care around the world. Our role is to give the organization and its volunteer leaders the strategic and operational support they need to expand that impact."
ISMICS advances its mission through its Annual Scientific Meeting, educational programs, workshops, research initiatives and Innovations, and its official journal. Its programs provide opportunities for physicians and researchers to share knowledge and advance robotic, minimally invasive and transcatheter approaches to cardiothoracic surgery.
The society is led by Dr. Nirav C. Patel, an internationally recognized pioneer in robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery who serves as director of robotic cardiac surgery and vice chairman of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, Northwell Health. Patel has trained surgeons around the world and helped establish robotic cardiac surgery programs across multiple continents.
As part of the new partnership, Veritas' Lauren Antelo will serve as executive director of ISMICS. Antelo brings extensive experience in association management, governance, strategic planning and partner engagement and will work closely with ISMICS leadership to support the society's strategic priorities and create value for its members and volunteer leaders.
"ISMICS is entering an exciting new chapter, and we're pleased to partner with Veritas to strengthen the Society's operations and support our global community," said Dr. Patel, President of ISMICS. "I'm confident this collaboration will help us expand our impact and better serve our members."
The addition of ISMICS expands Veritas' portfolio of healthcare associations and medical societies. Veritas specializes in providing strategic leadership, operational infrastructure, educational programming, meeting management and member services that allow healthcare associations to focus on advancing their missions.
