Constant C Reflects on 40 Years of Technology Change - and Why Trusted Guidance Matters More Than Ever

WINNIPEG, MB: In 1986, business software came on floppy disks. The internet was not yet part of everyday office life, mobile phones were a rarity, and artificial intelligence belonged largely to researchers and science fiction.

That same year, Jason Kolaski founded Constant C Technology Group after developing an innovative software package for Canadian video rental chains.

Forty years later, Constant C has worked through the rise of PCs, the internet, mobile devices, cloud computing, modern cybersecurity, and now, artificial intelligence.

Almost everything about business technology has changed. One thing has not: Business owners still need someone they trust to help them understand what matters.

“The lesson after 40 years isn't that technology changes quickly. Everybody knows that,” said Kolaski, President and CEO of Constant C Technology Group. “Businesses don't need more technology for the sake of technology. They need someone who understands their business, can explain what actually matters, who has seen technological changes come and go, and who will still be there when the next big change comes along.”

Constant C has remained founder-led, locally owned and independent throughout its history, never selling or merging as the IT industry has consolidated.

Its services evolved alongside its clients' needs. Through each transition, Constant C saw businesses face the same fundamental questions: What matters? What is hype? What creates new risks? And where will technology actually make the organization better?

Four decades of answering those questions have reinforced several lessons: Technology should solve a business problem rather than introduce unnecessary complexity. Security requires ongoing attention rather than one-time fixes. And long-term IT relationships depend more on trust than contracts.

Constant C currently reports a 97% client retention rate, with client churn approximately one-third of the industry average. The company attributes that longevity to relationships built through years of helping clients make decisions, solve problems, and prepare for change.

That philosophy is now shaping Constant C's approach to artificial intelligence.

AI presents many of the same questions previous technology shifts did, but at a much faster pace. Businesses are weighing potential productivity gains against concerns around security, privacy, governance, and adoption.

Constant C is addressing those challenges through Managed Intelligence, its approach to helping organizations deploy and manage AI securely. The company first implemented the technology internally, giving its team firsthand experience before bringing those capabilities to clients.

For Constant C, the tools may be changing again, but the role remains familiar: Understand what is coming, determine what actually matters, and help businesses move forward securely.
