PHOENIX, AZ / ACCESS Newswire / November 3, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who is proud to honor Thomas Otto Rankin, professionally known as Otto Rankin, for his distinguished contributions to custom window treatments, motorization, design integration and home automation. Mr. Rankin's recognition reflects more than three decades of craftsmanship, technical expertise and relationship-driven service in the shades and draperies industry. His work continues to advance custom window treatments and home automation while delivering highly personalized solutions for clients across multiple states.

Mr. Rankin has served as owner and chief executive officer of Pacific Shades Custom Design & Automation since 2016. Based in Phoenix, the company specializes in custom window-covering solutions, including motorized shades, draperies, Roman shades, valances and other soft furnishings. Mr. Rankin oversees fabrication, workroom operations, project scheduling and installation coordination while working directly with designers, architects, builders, homeowners and field crews.

In an interview with Marquis Who's Who, Mr. Rankin said his career began 30 years ago when he started at a company as an installer and gradually learned every aspect of the business. Those experiences eventually provided the foundation for his own entrepreneurial path and his specialty in integrating motorized window treatments into residential designs.

Mr. Rankin's technical expertise extends beyond traditional window coverings. Pacific Shades operates its own workroom, where custom Roman shades and draperies are fabricated and motorized. The company works extensively with Lutron shades, motors and electronic components and collaborates with specialty fabric mills to provide distinctive solutions. Mr. Rankin also serves as a liaison among manufacturers, installers, designers and technology integrators to ensure each system works effectively within the overall design of a home.

His projects often require unconventional problem-solving. Speaking with Marquis Who's Who, Mr. Rankin recalled working with an architect on a residence designed to appear centuries old. To create authentic shutters, his team obtained wood from an old barn in Tennessee, transported it to Arizona and fabricated the reclaimed material into custom shutters. He has also completed projects involving yachts and other highly specialized applications.

Relationships have been equally important to his success. Pacific Shades relies heavily on referrals rather than traditional advertising, with satisfied clients repeatedly engaging the company for additional residences. Its work has extended beyond Arizona to California, Texas, Michigan, Florida, Illinois and the Caribbean, as well as to projects in Colorado and New Mexico. Mr. Rankin considers the continued trust of returning clients one of his greatest professional accomplishments.

Mr. Rankin also believes collaboration across trades leads to better results. Rather than viewing other companies strictly as competitors, he frequently assists fellow installers and industry professionals with technical questions, parts and project challenges. He emphasizes building relationships with electricians, framers, designers, architects and builders so each team can work toward the best possible outcome for the homeowner.

His achievements have been recognized by Window Fashion VISION, including first place for Motorized Window Fashions in 2018, second place in the same category in 2019, and first place for Top Treatments and second place for Commercial Projects in 2020. He has also served on boards associated with the Arizona chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and ASID and previously volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International.

Mr. Rankin completed coursework in education at Lake Superior State University in 1990. While his professional education has continued largely through hands-on experience, he credits staying current with technology, electrical systems, fabrics and fabrication methods as essential to remaining successful in an evolving industry.

Family has also remained central to his career. Mr. Rankin credits his wife, family and friends with providing the support necessary to build the company. His wife of 30 years is actively involved in Pacific Shades and manages projects alongside him. He also credits his mother with instilling a strong work ethic while emphasizing that professional dedication should remain balanced with family.

Mr. Rankin told Marquis Who's Who that he remains enthusiastic about advances that make motorized window treatments easier for homeowners to control while preserving the craftsmanship and personal service that have defined his career.

"Otto Rankin exemplifies the caliber of skilled entrepreneur and industry professional Marquis Who's Who is proud to chronicle," the editorial team stated. "His ability to combine craftsmanship, motorization technology and strong client relationships reflects a career built on innovation, collaboration and an unwavering commitment to quality."
