Luna Innovations Incorporated (NASDAQ:LUNA), a developer of sensing, instrumentation and nanomedicine technologies and products, today announced it has been added to the Russell Microcap Index after the Russell Investment Group reconstituted its comprehensive set of U.S. and global equity indexes on June 27, 2008.
According to the Russell Investment Group, the Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for passive and active investment strategies. Membership in the Russell Microcap, which remains in place for one year, means automatic inclusion in the appropriate growth and value style indexes. Russell determines membership for its equity indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes.

The Russell Microcap Index measures the performance of the microcap segment of the U.S. equity market. It includes 1,000 of the smallest securities in the small-cap Russell 2000® Index based on a combination of their market cap and current index membership as well as the next 1,000 securities below the index.
