The Kappa Foundation of Pompano Beach to honor local leading women

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - March 17, 2022 - PRLog -- The Kappa Foundation of Pompano Beach will host a ceremony to honor trailblazing women for Women's History Month this March. The event will take place on Saturday, March 19 at 11 a.m. at Apollo Park, 1580 NW 3rd Ave, Pompano Beach. Founder of Villij News, Attiyya Atkins, will be honored at the ceremony, as well as other leading local ladies.

"It's so important that we as black people know what's going on in our communities so we can make the changes that better our communities," Atkins said. "We have to realize that we are the change that we need to uplift our communities."

The event started last year where more than 100 hometown historical leading ladies were honored with red carnations and decorative yard signs along Esther Rolle Avenue or NW 3rd Ave. Atkins joins a marvelous group of leading ladies including Emma Hawkins Ellington, who was honored last year. Ellington worked as a nurse during segregation at Broward General Hospital. Even the street that the event is on honors Women's History. The avenue is named after an iconic Emmy-award winning Pompano Beach native Esther Rolle who starred in the Good Times TV show.

Through Villij News, Atkins keeps a pulse on the happenings in northwest Pompano to help the public make informed decisions for those who live, work, and play in the city. Atkins graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's in journalism and a minor in African studies. Her work as a journalist and freelance writer for publications like Slate, Huffington Post, The Crime Report, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and more, taught her the importance of and the need for high-quality written content, as well as the power of a united community.

One of her favorite stories she's covered for Villij News is the fate of the Westview Cemetery, a historical black burial ground. A portion of the land was sold to a local developer to build a storage facility. Members of the community are fighting the sale.

Atkins is a business owner. Her publishing company, A+ Editing & Content Creation (APECC), which publishes Villij News. APECC has helped thousands of clients realize their ambitions through publishing, including clients from JetBlue, Duetsch Bank, Major League Baseball (MLB), small business owners, and best-selling authors.

Atkins also has a non-profit, Up Movement, which hosted free therapy for the families of victims of gun violence.
