613 MED Helps Keep Holocaust Survivors Safe This Holiday Season

Gift bags filled with holiday staples and essential PPE helped hundreds of local Holocaust survivors navigate a socially-distanced Hanukkah this year.

92-year-old Lilly Michaelis of Fort Lauderdale was just one of hundreds of local Holocaust survivors surprised with a curated gift bag for Hanukkah. When asked what the gesture meant to her, Michaelis said, "Gratefulness is the best thing in my heart."

Organized by Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County, approximately 750 gift bags filled with food, candles, personal protective equipment (PPE), and handmade holiday cards from students of local Jewish schools, were distributed throughout the area. Aventura-based 613 MED, donated 800 boxes of disposable 3-ply masks and 800 bottles of sanitizer, providing essential PPE to a vulnerable demographic.

"It's extremely unfortunate that these courageous men and women who survived the horrors of the Holocaust, now have to live their golden years in isolation and fear of an invisible virus," said 613 MED Founder and CEO, Jack Itzkowitz. "But if there's a group of people that have the strength to fight it, it's them. We're just happy to do what we can to help."

If you or anyone you know is in need of essential PPE as we head into the new year, 613 MED's Managing Partner, Samuel Baruki Cohen, asks that you please reach out. "We are deeply committed to serving the marginalized and underprivileged," said Cohen. "We are all in this together."
