Hannah Bacon to Present $10,000 to Sunrise Movement

Scottsdale, Dec 21, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - WHO & WHAT: Hannah Bacon, a twenty-seven-year-old environmental activist is solo hiking across the United States to raise money and awareness for climate action and will soon reach Phoenix. After a month of planning with friends in Santa Cruz and Berkeley, Bacon plotted her route to the Atlantic, creating "Miles for Climate," her blog and platform raising awareness and funds for immediate climate action. Since launching www.milesforclimate.org in November, Bacon met her goal of $10K through her GoFundMe account supporting www.SunriseMovement.org, a 100% youth-led organization mobilizing climate activists nation-wide with over 400 local hubs in towns across America. Bacon will present the check on IG Live with Green Living Magazine at Agave Farms this week.

WHY: "We need immediate, systemic changes to move towards renewable energy, provide green jobs, and prepare our communities for an increase in climate disasters," noted Bacon. During a recent flight from NY to CA, Bacon read David Wallace-Wells' The Uninhabitable Earth, and recognized her own carbon footprint, having flown back and forth between family in CT and her Santa Cruz home for the past five years. "As I hiked in the redwoods, I considered this year's record-breaking wildfires ravaging Santa Cruz County and the west, the people who were forced to leave their homes, and the communities experiencing loss from climate-related disasters around the world. I imagined the impact of my frivolous cross-country travels over the past five years and felt certain of my decision to walk."

On November 21st at 4:15 am, Bacon broke her SoCal, San Clemente State Beach camp traversing the beach and stepping barefoot into the Pacific beginning her solo walk to the Atlantic. To date, Bacon has walked nearly 500 miles over Southern California's mountain ranges crossing the Mojave Desert to reaching Arizona, taking a brief respite at the Colorado River. Sore feet, aching body, and unexpected route changes have not deterred the young activist who is looking forward to her next milestone after Phoenix, reaching New Mexico. Along the way, Bacon has collected an array of followers, supporters, and helpers as she treks America's highways and byways.
