Monmouth County, Jul 22, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Dennis W.C. Wong was born in Honolulu, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii in 1951 at Kapiolani Hospital. They moved to San Francisco in 1958; one year before it became the 50th state.

The title comes from his mother Katherine's Chinese middle name "Koon Hung," which means outlook apricot. According to him, he would have published the book under the fictitious name of "The Clever Clock Publishing Company." This is, in turn, a play on his Chinese middle name "Wai Chung," meaning clever clock.

The Apricot Outlook Of Katherine Koon Hung Wong is a debut portrait of a Chinese American woman from Hawaii. Dennis W.C. Wong presents the story of his mother, Katherine "Katy" C. Wong (1928-2014), in her own words, drawing from conversations that he, her eldest child, conducted in the latter part of her life. Along with Katy's own words, the book also features an array of color and black-and-white images from her life, depicting such things as the first home that she and her husband purchased and travel documents from a trip to China.

The memoir moves along very quickly. However, some of her memories lack explanation and detail, perhaps due, in part, to the effects of a stroke, as the editor points out. Still, Katy's statements can carry plenty of emotional weight at times. "I feel sorry that the doctor told him you don't get Katy upset because she is already downhill."

Dennis W.C. Wong was born at Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu, Oahu, in the territory of Hawaii in 1951. He found out from a lady in a gift shop that the hospital had to move its Labor and Delivery Department into the basement after the attack on Pearl Harbor, then moved again to the third floor. This was to ensure the safety of the pregnant mothers and their babies, of which he and his mother Katherine were part of.

This book was meant to share the stories of his mother in her elderly years with people who are eager to see a unique perspective of the past. He invites you to see the world as his mother saw it then. Join him on his journey today!
