Austin homeowners can't pay 2018 property taxes early to grab bigger federal deduction

The new federal tax law set to take effect Jan. 1 caps the deduction of state and local taxes at $10,000 annually. That's bad news for Austinites: "It looks like Texans are out of luck in terms of being able to deduct 2018 property taxes," said Bruce Elfant, the tax assessor-collector in Travis County.
