The Lincoln Park staple will celebrate 25 years of service with 2,500 pounds of crawfish and a full day of Zydeco.
PRLog - Mar. 27, 2014 - CHICAGO -- Since McGee’s Tavern opened its doors in 1989 to become a Lincoln Park staple, they have celebrated spring with an authentic, New Orleans-style crawfish boil, appropriately named, the Headsucker's Ball. Last year, the tavern became home of one of the largest single-day orders from the nation’s largest crawfish purveyor, family-owned and operated, Louisiana Crawfish Co., established only four years before McGee’s. In other words, it became  one of the biggest crawfish boils in the United States. On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the tavern plans to set the bar even higher.

“We just like to have a great time and we throw parties very well here. We’ve been doing it for years, we don’t miss any bases, people know us for our parties, and they have grown with us over time. We are so excited to be able to celebrate twenty-five years of service to our awesome community and want to especially thank those who have made this particular landmark possible. We will be doing big things this year, I can assure you that!” said Owner, Tom Piazza, smiling and laughing.

Shortly after McGee’s celebrates its 25th birthday, the group will once again receive the 2,250 pounds of crawfish packed in dry ice. The team of cooks will work for two days to prep, season and boil it all up so the servers and bartenders can sling giant portions of crawfish on the plates of the nearly 1,200 people who will come out to celebrate.

The crawfish will be in good company when served up alongside 640 pounds of homemade gumbo, 720 pounds of creole jambalaya and 720 of red beans and rice, all prepared by the McGee’s kitchen staff, from recipes that have been perfected over the past twenty-five years. For added entertainment, guests can watch the staff prepare this feast on the Thursday and Friday, prior to the event.

To make guests feel like they are in the heart of NoLa, the band Hurricane Gumbo will be playing Zydeco music on the stage starting at 2pm. A dance floor and eating stations will be set up for guests to better enjoy their food and music.

The Headsucker’s Ball is a rain or shine event. Tickets cost $20 online and $25 at the door. Tickets sell out every year. The event lasts from 10 am – 10 pm. Tickets includes all-you-can-eat food, generally lasting until early evening.
