Grandma’s, America’s Favorite Molasses Brand, Supports Elephants in Need with its Adopt an Elephant Campaign

Baking staple Grandma’s Molasses has furthered its commitment to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, a nonprofit organization that provides a haven for old, sick or needy African and Asian elephants, with the launch of the Grandma’s Molasses Adopt an Elephant Campaign. Beginning September 4 through December 31, 2012, animal lovers can visit ElephantsLoveGrandmas.com to “adopt” an elephant with a small donation to The Elephant Sanctuary.

Since 2008, America’s #1 molasses brand has donated an annual supply of product to The Elephant Sanctuary, where it is used to entice elephants to take their medications and dietary supplements by concealing the taste with its flavorful sweetness. With the launch of this new charitable initiative, Grandma’s Molasses is giving people everywhere a simple way to help elephants in need.

“It costs approximately $133,000 to provide sanctuary for one elephant for a year, and $30 to feed one elephant for a day, so every little bit helps,” said Steve Smith, Director of Elephant Husbandry for The Elephant Sanctuary. “Grandma’s Molasses has been a wonderful partner over the years, and the donation of product has been invaluable to our elephants and their nutritional needs. We’re thrilled to be a part of this new campaign as it will continue to greatly impact the lives of our elephants.”

Animal lovers are encouraged to visit ElephantsLoveGrandmas.com to “adopt.” With each donation of $10 or more comes a certificate of “adoption,” a subscription to The Elephant Sanctuary’s Trunklines newsletter, a coupon for a free jar of Grandma’s Molasses, and an original recipe for Grandma’s Elephant Bread – a sweet treat made with Grandma’s Molasses, nuts and all the things elephants love created by Heather Baird of the influential Tennessee baking blog SprinkleBakes.com. With each donation of $30 or more comes all of this, plus photos and bio information about the “adopted” elephant. 100% of the proceeds from the Grandma’s Molasses Adopt an Elephant Campaign will benefit The Elephant Sanctuary.

Grandma’s Molasses prides itself on being the highest grade, purest molasses available and it’s been rewarding to see the product used to make a tangible difference in the lives of animals that need our help,” explained Jordan Greenberg, Vice President, Marketing at B&G Foods. “Launching the Grandma’s Molasses Adopt an Elephant Campaign enables everyone to share in the rewarding experience of giving back to animals in need.”

Grandma’s Molasses is available at grocery stores nationwide for approximately $2.99, and is the highest grade molasses available, made from 100% pure, natural sugarcane juice and contains no additives.
