What Is The Market Telling Us
MACOM’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 40 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 1 day ago when the stock gained 4.4% on the news that the company announced a front-end chipset solution for 3.2T applications designed to accelerate next-generation optical interconnects for artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to a company press release, the chipset provides up to 3.2 terabits per second of throughput across eight channels operating at 448 gigabits per second PAM-4, a signal modulation technology used to increase data transmission speeds. The solution is engineered to support high-performance data processing across cloud data centers, high-speed networking, and next-generation AI infrastructure. Data Insights reported that hedge funds shifted positioning in MACOM Technology Solutions from short-biased to long-biased in August. According to the report, the long-to-short fund count ratio rose from 0.98x to 1.23x and net long exposure increased from 48.3% to 63.9%.
MACOM is up 57% since the beginning of the year, but at $274.76 per share, it is still trading 32.9% below its 52-week high of $409.68 from May 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of MACOM’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $4,455.
