Geeky News Reports on Escalating Cybersecurity Concerns in Japan

By: IssueWire

Surrey, United Kingdom Dec 4, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Geeky News, a renowned technology and lifestyle journal, is pleased to announce the release of its new article. This article is titled "Escalating Cybersecurity Concerns: JAXA and JAE Among Japanese Organisations Hit by Cyberattacks." It sheds light on the recent cyberattacks targeting Japan's Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Japan Aviation Electronics (JAE). In the story, Geeky News highlights the escalating cybersecurity concerns in the country.

According to a statement by a government representative during a briefing on 29th November, JAXA fell victim to a cyberattack. Sources within JAXA confirmed that the agency's network server was targeted, to breach its mission-critical system.

The threat actors behind the attack have not claimed responsibility and the specific details of the attack remain undisclosed. However, JAXA assured the public that no sensitive information related to rocket and satellite operations had been exfiltrated thus far. JAXA refrained from providing further information. The company did report the incident to the ministry and promptly disconnected its internal system from external networks.

The Japan News, a prominent Japanese media outlet, was the first to report on the incident. Citing sources within JAXA, the publication indicated that the attack had focused on the agency's central Active Directory server. This manages mission-critical data such as passwords, staff IDs, and viewing privileges.

In a separate incident, Japan Aviation Electronics (JAE), a major manufacturing giant, also fell victim to a cyberattack. The attack resulted in workflow disruptions and the temporary shutdown of its official website. It was attributed to the ransomware gang known as ALPHV (also known as BlackCat). However, the extent of the data accessed or exfiltrated by the cybercriminals has not been disclosed.

The increasing number of cyber incidents targeting Japan's leading organisations underscores the urgent need to strengthen cybersecurity defences. Japan experienced a significant rise in ransomware attacks during the first half of 2022. The National Police Agency reported a shocking 87% increase, with a total of 114 incidents.

As businesses worldwide transition to the cloud, the vulnerability to such attacks becomes more pronounced. To fortify their cybersecurity posture, organisations can rely on high-end penetration testing services, such as those provided by Rootshell Security. Through rigorous and detailed approaches during penetration testing, critical vulnerabilities can be identified and remedied before malicious actors exploit them.
