Mendaera’s Focalist™ system now compatible with customized Butterfly iQ3 probe.

Mendaera’s FDA-cleared Focalist system combines handheld robotics, real-time imaging, and intelligent guidance software to support precision, confidence, and consistency during image-guided needle procedures, including vascular access, regional nerve blocks, and organ access.

“Ultrasound is fundamental to how Focalist sees and guides intervention, and Butterfly gives us a uniquely digital and programmable imaging platform to build on,” said Josh DeFonzo, Co-Founder and CEO of Mendaera. “Bringing Butterfly into our commercial platform expands access to precise, image-guided intervention today, while its software-defined architecture opens a path toward AI-enabled image interpretation and robotic action.”

Butterfly and Mendaera first announced their collaboration through the Butterfly Embedded™ program, bringing together complementary imaging and robotics technologies with the shared goal of advancing digitally native, AI-enabled intervention.

“Mendaera is tackling a real problem in healthcare with a platform designed to expand access to procedural imaging, while reducing reliance on a limited group of highly specialized expertise,” said Joseph DeVivo, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Butterfly Network. “We’re proud that this milestone not only extends Butterfly’s commitment to democratizing medical imaging but also marks our first Butterfly Embedded partner to commercialize — bringing our vision to life and demonstrating what Ultrasound-on-Chip can enable beyond traditional ultrasound.”

"One of the strengths of Focalist is the precision and control it gives me, consistently, across different procedures and clinical settings,” said Dr. Jacob Hutchins, anesthesiologist, Minneapolis, MN. “Expanding the ultrasound options available with the system makes that platform even more adaptable across specialties and use cases."

Mendaera and Butterfly will both be exhibiting at the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP26) Scientific Assembly on October 5-7, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. More information about the new product offering is available by visiting Mendaera at Booth 2318 and Butterfly Network at Booth 2511.
