Toshiba Responsible for Recycling 34 Metric Tons of Empty Toner Cartridges & Reforesting 28,847 Trees Across Worldwide Ecologically Sensitive Areas in 2024 Alone

Toshiba America Business Solutions celebrates Earth Day 2025 by facilitating the continuous reforestation of trees throughout eco-sensitive areas globally and preserving open land from e-waste.

Throughout 2024, Toshiba was specifically responsible for replanting nearly 29,000 trees across the United States, Tanzania, Romania, Malaysia, Northern Ireland, Canada and France. Last year the manufacturer was also accountable for recycling 34 metric tons of empty toner cartridges.

Freeing Open Spaces

Upon establishing its toner recycling program in 2008 with internationally recognized recycler Close the Loop, Toshiba has prevented nearly 1,637 metric tons – the equivalent weight of 572 light-to-medium-size trucks¹ – from entering community landfills. With Close the Loop’s support, Toshiba returns many of the toner cartridge components to the commodities market while converting others into new products, including asphalt material for road resurfacing.

Toshiba additionally integrates recycled plastics within its award-winning e-STUDIO^™ multifunction printers (MFPs). Toshiba’s sustainability initiatives are a primary reason the company’s MFPs appear on the EPEAT (Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool) registry. EPEAT is the definitive global rating system for greener electronics.

Reforesting Worldwide Woods

Upon pairing with PrintReleaf in 2016, Toshiba is responsible for reforesting 205,647 trees within sensitive woods worldwide. For every 8,333 sheets they print, Toshiba clients may select where to replant a tree based on U.N. Sustainable Goal recommendations. PrintReleaf partners with globally recognized inspection, verification, testing and certification organizations certifying the forestry partners and individual projects while also verifying the 100% net survival of the trees.
