HUNTSVILLE, AL / ACCESS Newswire / September 18, 2026 / After roughly 30 years in medicine, retired physician Edward Witt is continuing to stay connected to Recovery Center, the clinic he owns and occasionally returns to when additional support is needed.

Witt's continued involvement reflects one of the most important parts of his medical career: helping people navigate addiction, early sobriety, and the difficult period when consistent support can make a meaningful difference.

"I have helped people keep their sobriety and helped them stay alive in early recovery," Witt said. "Being a support system for people during that time has been one of the most meaningful parts of my career."

Witt is now retired from full-time medical practice, but his connection to Recovery Center has remained. He continues to own the clinic and periodically assists when needed, allowing him to stay involved with work that became increasingly important to him during his career.

His approach to recovery care grew from a broader philosophy he developed over decades in medicine. Witt believes that patient relationships, clear communication, and consistent treatment are closely connected.

"My forte has always been customer service," Witt said. "I have always believed in treating people right, educating others, and caring for the people who come to you for help."

Before focusing on clinic ownership and recovery care, Witt built a medical career that included work with Huntsville Hospital, Crestwood Hospital, and Maryvale Hospital in Phoenix. He also owned and operated Southcare Clinic and an aesthetic clinic before developing Recovery Center.

His move into clinic ownership gave him responsibility for both medical care and the overall patient experience. For Witt, that meant creating an environment where patients could feel comfortable speaking openly about what they were facing.

That approach became especially significant in addiction recovery, where trust can affect whether patients remain engaged with their care.

Witt says early recovery can be one of the most vulnerable stages for a patient. People may be rebuilding relationships, changing routines, and trying to create stability while managing the challenges that come with sobriety.

His work at Recovery Center placed him directly alongside patients during those periods, and he considers helping people remain sober and alive among the accomplishments that matter most to him.

Outside medicine, Witt has also spent decades pursuing two lifelong interests: hockey and music.

He began playing hockey at five years old in Erie, Pennsylvania, later competing on travel teams, earning an MVP award, playing Junior A hockey, and receiving a college scholarship. He eventually coached the sport and remains connected to hockey today.

Music took his career in another unexpected direction. In Huntsville, Witt became known as the "Rock Doc," providing medical care to musicians and entertainers performing in the area. His work brought him into contact with artists including Elton John, Hall & Oates, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Heart, Chicago, Train, and others.

While those experiences became memorable parts of his career, Witt says his work with everyday patients remains central to how he looks back on medicine.

Now in retirement, he continues to enjoy hockey, music, golf, and trail-bike riding while spending more time with his wife, Tatjana. He also continues informal philanthropic efforts, including helping people with groceries, food, clothing, and other immediate needs.

Retirement has changed Witt's schedule, but not his interest in helping people. His continued connection to Recovery Center allows him to remain involved in a part of medicine that shaped the later years of his career.
