Brasil Telecom Reaches 800 thousand
Broadband Accesses In Service

Brasilia, Brazil, August 8, 2005 – Brasil Telecom S.A. (BOVESPA: BRTO3/BRTO4; NYSE: BTM) informs to the market in general that it has reached 800 thousand broadband accesses in service in Region II. Considering the network at the end of the 2nd quarter 2005, Brasil Telecom’s penetration rate for broadband accesses in service compared to lines in service amounts to 8.7%, the largest rate in Brazil.

Brasil Telecom is confident it will surpass the originally projected 1 million broadband accesses in service by the end of 2005.
